About Us
Where
did the name Exceptional Rider Training come
from?
The
founder of Exceptional Rider Training Mr
Ronn Tapp was conducting a restricted or A2 course
back in 1999. There were 6 students on the course, (back then
6 was the maximum allowed by the DSA. It is now been reduced
to a maximum of 4).
Ronn
recalls, ” when I found out there were 6 students on
the course, I remember thinking.....How I am going to keep
6 students safe out on the road?!!”
My
answer was to take them to a nearby industrial estate and
work with them on junctions and roundabouts until everyone
of them was able to complete the course I had set out for
them before we headed out onto the road.
Three
days later we were at the test centre at Wallington in Croydon.
The test centre was in the old Town Hall. Behind this is the
Wallington Library and between the two was a cafeteria where
we would base ourselves prior to the tests. It was a very
busy test centre with three motorcycle examiners.
So the students started going out for their tests. First one
passed, second passed, third passed....
....There were a number of other instructors from the area
present and a buzz started to go round the cafeteria that
I had three passes and three to go.
Normally by lunchtime the number of instructors and students
thins out to just the people booked for afternoon tests. This
day most people stayed to see the outcome.
Number four passed, number five and when I returned with number
six we were greeted by a standing ovation. Six out of six,
not a bad days work!!
When
we returned to the office we had a comments book for the students
to sign. The comment that stuck in my head was from one of
the six, “ I have just had the most incredible day of
my life, Ronn is nothing short of Exceptional!!”
Ronn
then thought, “If I ever get to start my own riding
school that is what I shall call it. Exceptional Rider Training!"
and in May 2007 this dream became a reality...
